Buckinghamshire New University, often called BNU, has a rich history dating back to 1891,
when it was established as the School of Science and Art in High Wycombe. Initially, it served as
a technical school to meet the needs of local industry, particularly furniture manufacturing, which
was a cornerstone of the region’s economy. Over the years, the institution expanded its offerings
and evolved through several name changes, reflecting its growing reputation and broader focus on
education.
In 1999, it became a university college and achieved full university status in 2007, adopting its
current name. This transition marked its emergence as a modern university with a commitment to
providing innovative and career-focused education.
BNU’s legacy is rooted in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern academic disciplines.
Today, the university offers diverse programs across business, health, creative arts, aviation, and
social sciences. It is known for its close ties to industry, strong emphasis on employability, and
practical learning opportunities.
